Happy 100!

A great reader let me know about an unseen candid of Daria (thanks Lizae) and here it is! I'm not sure where, or with whom, this was taken but judging from the bangs it must have been recent. Daria, as always, looks so at ease ... and her eyes are beautiful in this photo.

I also want to make this post a congratulations to The Daria Files and its readers for reaching 100 followers! It was so exciting to see that number reach, slowly but surely, up to 100 and now as of today five more have followed the site. Thank you so much!
I also want to use this post as a way of communicating to the readers. It would be great to hear from you about what you like (or don't like!) about the site and what you'd like to see more of. After all, it does get tiresome just reading only my ramblings!

How To Look Good Naked ... A Preview

A preview video of the newest issue of Industrie Magazine was posted and we finally have our first, albeit grainy, shots of Daria's editorial. The photographer is Patrick Demarchelier, master of the black and white beach shoot, and Daria is photographed along with Lara (although disappointingly they have no shots together).

Lindbergh really knows how to take beautiful black and white portraits. Some of these shots are quite reminiscent of Daria's In Love editorial. I'm really excited to see this in a better quality when I am sure there will be even more of a story to read into.

Let's Get Lost

Daria makes a surprise appearance in the May 2010 issue of Interview magazine, in a ten page editorial "Let's Get Lost".

It seems that every time I post there has to be an excuse attached to it, but again I am really sorry for the delayed posts! School is almost over and my university acceptances have gone out so I will hopefully be back to regular posting soon! But for now please bear with me :) And because I can not transition in writing at all - "on to our regular programming ... "

I suppose Jannson and Interview have done their job if they have intended to create an impressive editorial. By impressive editorial I mean one which has set off quite a lot of debates and conversation. If they have tried to achieve anything beyond controversy they have undoubtedly failed. I'll start with the positive - I love when Daria works with Jannson because he always manages to produce slick and sexy editorials. Let's Get Lost is full of colour and shading, chiaroscuro and light intensity. It is enough to please the naked eye but only for a little while.

Like myself you probably found yourself glancing in awe at the beautiful scenery and stunning colours, distinctly aware that the setting was a smoky dance bar probably far away in an exotic place ... and then maybe, like myself, you found yourself taking this editorial into deeper thought.
But then the multiple "why" questions arise and you ask yourself how oblivious was a magazine like Interview to put out an editorial like this. To be blunt - why is Daria the only white model? Why are her clothes detailed and rich while the others are in rags? Why is the light hitting her directly while the others are in shadows? Why is Daria so limp and lifeless when she could be just as easily lounging as the others?

I could answer every one of these questions with a reasonable "fashion answer" but in real life this entire shoot just comes off as uncomfortable. Its always that foreign concept of a white man in another culture, completely avoiding blending in and instead put on an odd pedestal. This editorial came out a week ago so I feel like I'm beating a dead horse here, but I'd love to hear what other readers think!

H&M Ultimate Summer 2010

It's an H&M kind of day today ... the full campaign for Summer 2010 has been released and a new H&M video as well as a behind the scenes look .Now iwe have the full campaign for H&M's Ultimate Summer collection. You can see the facebook album for all of the images. Its great to see such a beautiful and colourful campaign right before summer time. All of the models look great

H&M Collection Spring Summer 2010 Video

I really like this collection but I have to say I like Daria's Summer 2009 collection even more ... just because it was more Daria and less of the other models! Daria comes in at around fifteen seconds. You can see screencaps of the video here.

What's even cuter is this video interview done at the shoot. Its so great to see each of the models giving their favourite beach memories. Its a little awkward and forced but I think that makes it even cuter.

Industrie Magazine Preview

I think by this time we can all agree Daria looks good naked. But now the fashion flock has decided to devote an entire editorial to this concept. Daria's cover for the newly launched Industrie magazine was a mock preview but she does have an editorial inside with Lara Stone photographed by Patrick Demarchelier.

For now there is only the one image above and I'll hold my thoughts until I see the entire thing. Daria does look beautiful but we've seen a lot of nudity lately ... to the point where I'm starting to even lose an opinion on the work. Hopefully with Lara and Demarchelier in the mix, this editorial will live up to my expectations.

Daria =/= Prada

Don't be fooled by the latest rumours. Although it would be great to see Daria in another Prada campaign you will have to wait a little longer. News broke today that Angela Lindvall, Miranda Kerr, Valerija Kelava and Daria would star in the Fall/Winter 2010 Prada campaign. But it is Daria Strokous, not Werbowy, who will take the fourth spot. It only makes sense after Daria (Strokous ... this could get confusing) landed the May 2010 cover of Vogue Italia.

So although Werbowy fans are avid for another Meisel collaboration we'll have to wait some more. But to gloss over this dissapointing news, here is a look back at Daria's two Prada campaigns.
