How to Look Good Naked

Its been a while but the editorial in the first issue of Industrie has been scanned, a beautiful story of Lara Stone and Daria photographed by Patrick Demarchelier

How To Look Good Naked
Industrie Magazine Issue 1
Daria Werbowy and Lara Stone by Patrick Demarchelier

The editorial, a kind of recall to the late supermodel days, is a beautifully photographed spread by Patrick Demarchlier, King of black and white beach shoots. The idea isn't original but Daria and Lara are phenomenal. Especially in this first photo below of Daria with the cigarette ... I swear she is the only model who could ever turn me onto smoking again. The photo is quintessential Daria. There is something more "rough around the edges" with these photos that I felt previous editorials were lacking. The entire editorial, and Demarchelie'rs interview, is calling for another comeback of the "supermodel" and you can see definite singular characteristics in each girls' photos.

What I find a bit lacking though, is that in all the mention of the loss of the big name models and a certain celebrity to these beauties there is hardly a quote or sentence from Lara and Daria. I find it hypocritical of Industrie to lament on the lack of household names these days but then forgoe any type of view from the models themselves. To publish such a stunning editorial on the supposed top models but then leave out any mention of Daria or Lara, save for a title page shout-out is quite disheartening. Its the confusion like this that I think is really preventing any models these days from becoming public names.

I think we all know by now that Daria is not one for the voluntary supermodel status but its interesting to see the conflicting views that editors take in the game as well. Its one thing to complain about the lack of support for models but then to do nothing to curb the problem is another. Despite this confusion, in the end it looks like the wait for these scans has been appeased with such beautiful images. Not to be overly fanatic but that second image ... I would find a place on my wall for it if I could!

World Cup Fever

Its that time again, where countless cars are adorned with flags, jerseys are being worn left and right and the nationalism is spiked up a few notches. Yes, its World Cup time! Being a complete fathers daughter I'm following just about every game (Germany 4:0!) and getting more and more excited in the process. Now, to make this post the least bit relevant for the site I wanted to drag up an old editorial. News has been slow as of late but this editorial with Daria and Cristiano Ronaldo from 2007 is sure to put you all into the FIFA spirit.

Vogue US March 2007 : The A-Team

Daria Werbowy and Cristiano Ronaldo by Mikael Jaansen

This is standard US Vogue fare, the cheesy editorial with a sports star and model. But what I liked about this photo story was the fact that Daria was playing a super manager, not just a super girlfriendd clinging to Ronaldo! Mikael took some great shots and Daria and Ronaldo look like they're having fun. Now Daria fans ... who are you cheering for?

Thursday Treat

Apart from the Fard Fatal video that was just released its been a pretty slow news week. But I do have a new (old) picture that I missed out on a few months ago. Daria rarely makes an apperance in Vogue Italia but she did a few months ago, albeit for a small picture in a beauty article. Its really beautiful and I don't think I've ever seen it in print before although it does look a few years old. Nonetheless its beautiful and just something we need to get us to the end of the week!

Behind The Scenes of ... Fard Fatal

Finally! After a few weeks of tedious waiting Lancome uploaded the fifteen minute video of Daria's editorial in May Vogue Paris "Fard Fatal". I'm trying to upload this huge file onto the site but for now you can see the entire thing here! *Edit: video added to post below

To tide you all over, I've screen capped some images from the video ... mostly my favourite moments. Daria looks so pleasant and fun to work with, although I have to admit sometimes she looked just as bored of Aaron de Mey's speeches as I was! I love seeing backstage moments such as these. It really makes you appreciate an editorial so much more when you see how much work goes into a few pages. Its so easy to forget about the teams of people that go into the making of one editorial - makeup artists, photographer, models, assistants, the assistants to assistants ... this video made me go back to my issue of Vogue Paris and pore over the images just to see if I had missed anything from before.

Update Cecilia has kindly uploaded the video onto youtube! Enjoy!

Lancôme Ô de Lancôme / Ô d'Azur

Its been a little lacking in the news lately but fortunately a new Lancome shot has been released - this time Lancôme's Ô de Lancôme perfume (at left). I'm not sure yet if it is for Ô de Lancôme and not just another shot from the Ô d'Azur campaign ... but if it is new that means Daria will be fronting two perfumes this season, and we are only half way through the year!

I was starting to wonder whether or not Lancome would produce anything with Daria this year, seeing as how other spokesmodels Ellettra Wiedemann and Julia Roberts have been doing plenty of work for the brand. But on the other hand they are well known names ... and I suppose everything is better in moderation. I really like that Lancome has decided to go the more natural and beach inspired route with Daria this time around. I've always disliked their makeup campaigns of past just because I think Daria is most beautiful when left with little makeup on. As long as it continues this way I'm excited to see what Lancome has in store.

Good Things Come In Twos

I'm about two weeks too late but here are the scanned pages of Daria in the June 2010 issue of US Vogue. Oh well, better late than never? Its the thought that counts? OK enough idioms, on to the photos.

Daria has two pages in the June issue, both were images accompanying articles in the beauty section. Both are outtakes from the Go West editorial in the January 2010 issue of Vogue US! I love the black and white photo in the sand. It's so beautiful and abstract and I love how they allowed Daria's tattoo to be shown. If Vogue keeps producing beautiful images like this then I won't mind these little article photos in lieu of longer editorials.

Summer Time

Its June 1st! And in my misconstrued concept of seasons it is an unofficial start to summer. Only a month left of school (for me at least!) and then a long  vacation. To herald this change of season I've found some of the most beautiful summer shots of Daria, images that conjure up the heat, the sun, the beach and much needed rest and relaxation. Its also a nice way to look at individual shots of an editorial without being overwhelmed by a concept or other photos.

Also, I've changed up the layout a bit just for something new ... its still a clean look which I love but less industrial. Something else to show the start of summer!

Candid Tuesday

Its only Tuesday but I'm ready for the week to end - I'm guessing most of you are thinking the same way? To ease this (not even) middle-of-the-week-slump here are two candids, old and new. The first one is from the New York, New York party at Le Baron earlier this year (more of which you can see under the Events and Candids page) and the second a recent one from an outing in Toronto. Daria was on hand before the opening of Pretty Freedom, a new store in Kensington Market, and the store owners managed to snap a picture with Daria. Considering their fine taste in models the two must have curated a great store ... enjoy!
