Stefanel Fall Winter 2011 2012

Daria has her first official campaign for the Fall Winter 2011/12 season! Although she didn't return as the face of Balmain after her Spring Summer '10 campaign (although models rarely do repeats for Balmain) she reprises her role as the face of Stefanel for the FW 11/12 campaign! This is her fourth consecutive and fourth overall campaign for the Italian label, so I think its safe to call Daria the Stefanel girl now!

All of the Stefanel campaigns (which you can see under the Campaigns page) have had different themes but an overlying idea of a relaxed but sophisticated cool - just like Daria. So I'm not surprised the company went for Daria again. I like the feel of this campaign already - it looks like it will be another out and about in the city idea but this time in Berlin. And you can never go wrong with dogs ... look at how cute that puppy is!

Daria as Inez

A new photo is a rare sight these days. It looks like Daria's been laying low for the past month in terms of magazine apperances, and now that she's off sailing the world for the next two months I don't think we'll see much in the future! Thats why it was a treat to find this photo of Daria dressed like Inez van Lamsweerde in a photographer-muse switch.

This photo was taken by Inez and Vinoodh in 2010 and will be displayed at an exhibition in Sao Paulo, Brazil ... well right about now actually! If there are any Brazilian readers out there then you should go to the exhibition - it starts in half an hour - and then you can let us know if there are any other unseen Daria pictures!

Elle sure does love their reprints but its good for fans because now we have another cover for Daria this year! Elle Poland reprinted Elle Spains May 2011 cover. I have to say I like the Polish edition more for its brighter colours.

Now I don't normally do posts on reprints but seeing as how the news is sparse these days ... and also for any Polish readers out there (or for those able to get ahold of this magazine!) could you let us know if there is an interview inside or perhaps new unpublished pictures? It would be much appreciated!

Some more glimpses of the new H&M by Matthew Williamson Spring 2009. Daria and Matthew Williamson "traveled all the way to Mexico to shoot what could be a studio shot, but the airtime was done for the sunlight on the Mexican beach." I'm not too fond of the idea of logging so much miles for such a campaign, but hopefully the images will change my mind. But apart from that the candids look great!

According to glamurama, all of the top models (including Gisele Bündchen, Kate Moss, Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, Elle Macpherson, Eva Herzigova, Natalia Vodianova, Carmen Kass, Daria Werbowy and Isabeli Fontana) will be in a massive editorial of 45 pages about summer in V magazine. The photographer is Mario Testino...I am not his biggest fan, but he did make an amazing editorial in the recent Vogue UK so we'll see how this turns out!

Finally, a new editorial in Vogue US! After a million editorials shot by Inez & Vinoodh, "The Deep End" is the newest editorial in the April issue of Vogue US, shot by Mert & Marcus
Apparently, this is only the fourth time Mert & Marcus have ever shot for US Vogue, the last full editorial they did for them was way back in March 2004.You can see all of the pictures here

Sorry for the lack of updates - life has been very busy lately! Daria has an editorial in the March issue of Vogue Paris. She is back to working with Inez & Vinoodh and stylist Emmanuelle Alt. The entire editorial can be seen here. I'm never a big fan for the chic tacky look stylists go for and even though it's supposed to be ironic, this editorial has lost it's appeal to me.

The Creation Of Toronto's Mille Femmes by Maraval

Thanks to anton, I have a heads up on the Mille Femmes projet by Maraval. It's quite interesting - I saw a piece on this a while back but never really read into it. In June of last year there was an exhibit of 1000 influential women in Toronto, coinciding with Maraval's previous collections with Canadian women in Montreal. A bit more info on the show ...

Toronto's Mille Femmes is a tribute to 1,000 artistic, creative and inspiring women from Toronto and their protégés, who embody the passion and heritage of the city. Architects, actors, dancers, designers, journalists, musicians and others have been chosen in recognition of their achievements and leadership in their field. Joined together, the 1,000 portraits will become a visual network, a chain of recognition that celebrates not only an extraordinary community of women, but also the creative character and diversity of Toronto.

We have a video and a photo. And a screencap. I couldn't help laughing when comparing the Daria in the foreground to her Lancome picture in the background! It's quite an interesting project and I wish I could have visited the installation. Daria is featured along with Adrienne Clarkson, Shannon Mercer and other talents ... quite an honour!

The picture is very beautiful and natural - a great shot! And here's the video below. Daria comes in at around 3.00 minutes.

TI's spies peeping on the set of that certain VI shoot spotted a recent cosmetics campaign queen...being brushed and dusted for an upcoming shoot. She wasn't alone as another beauty was also booked for the same edit...but TI for one is very happy to see this recent icon basking again in Meisel's immaculate light.-- The Imagist

The imagist posted a very intriguing piece of news ... the last time Daria worked with Meisel we received brilliant Vogue Italia shots. 2004 was her year but then Meisel dropped her and moved on ... maybe he is reconsidering? Either way, as someone on tFS said "Julia Stegner (Maybelline), Doutzen Kroes (L'Oreal) and Hilary Rhoda (Estee Lauder) come immediately to mind." And Daria is not a recent icon...

Iron Maiden | Vogue UK March 2009

The pictures of Iron Maiden are finally here and I can safely say it's the best yet of 2009. This has to be one of my favourite editorials in a while. It has such a great rock vibe and Daria pulls of the androgynous look extremely well. This shot in particular, reminds me of another favourite model of mine - Amanda Moore.
After being used to seeing Daria shot by Mario Testino in a lifeless Vogue US editorial, this is an amazing piece of work from the two.

Daria and Matthew Williamson for H&M

Today we have news on two campaigns, one familiar and one I'm not so familiar with:

"Matthew Williamson will be the face — alongside Daria Werbowy — of the campaign for his upcoming collection for Hennes & Mauritz. In the campaign, shot in Tulum, Mexico, Williamson models pieces from his men’s wear collection. The campaign, shot by Solve Sundsbo, will break in May, although no titles have been confirmed. The H&M campaign marks Williamson’s modeling debut, according to his business partner Joseph Velosa, and the designer will appear in the H&M TV ads as well. Williamson’s men’s and women’s collections for H&M bow in April. "

There's also news of a collaboration between Daria and Dormice
an art duo consisting of Heinrich Nocholaus and Sawan Yawnghwe known for their extreme use of colour and form.

Daria has the Balmain Spring Summer 2009 Campaign! I'm pretty sure it's another collaboration between Emanuelle Alt and Inez & Vinoodh.

Last season, we only had one image from Balmain so this may be the only campaign image they release.

Isabel Marant Spring Summer 2009

Good news today! The Isabel Marant ads have been released, three in total, and it looks like this will be all of the images - Marant usually has two to three picture campaigns. The collection, and this campaign it seems like, was inspired by the Wild West so this journey to a highway in the middle of nowhere ties in well. This campaign is quite nice and very Isabel Marant in the fact that its so relaxed and simple. I'd say you can have a successful campaign with a girl like Daria because she just makes these pictures look all the more cool.

Searching through Alan Gelati's site I came across the Harper's Bazaar Dubai cover! I think it is a very beautiful shot for a cover - simple and clean. Daria has six pages of photos, and a three page article, according to the fashist.

We finally have the new scans of Marie Claire Ukraine! Daria is featured in an editorial, along with a full-length interview but I have no idea what any of it says - ~~so if there is somebody who speaks Russian it would be greatly appreciated to have a translation!~~

Edit* It turns out that the interview is old (from autumn 2008) where talks about Ukrainian traditions in her family and about her modeling career.

Edit: We had a very helpful anonymous fill us in with the interview!

Isabel Marant Spring Summer 2009

The best image of 2009 so far! Daria has the Isabel Marant campaign and this image is pure bliss. I think she's the perfect Marant girl - carefree and beautiful, very French. Hopefully there are more photos to go along with the campaign - Isabel Marant usually publishes 2-3 shots each season. So its less than a Prada campaign, but more than Balmain!

A Return to the Catwalk?

According to a number of Brazilian news site, Daria is confirmed to be in Sauo Paulo Fashion Week, walking for Forum Tufi Duek. She had previously shot the campaign for December 2009, so an appearance at the show would make sense. However, considering Daria hasnt walked the shows in the past four or five seasons, I am still a little sceptical..

For now though an unseen picture from Daria's first visit to Brazil (2007 - correct me if I'm wrong).

The third image of Cavalli has been released - I have to say, this campaign really has no cohesive theme. Just very kitsch but this is an interesting shot. The posing and overall exaggerated feel reminds me a lot of Daria's 2008 editorial in Vogue Paris, but I guess that makes sense seeing as Inez and Vinoodh lensed both and this is kind of their trademark. If you didn't forget we also had the Marylin Monroe photo and the first photo of the campaign here.

I can't believe these pictures! Daria back in 2002 - a very old editorial from a German magazine, thanks to radolgc at the Fashion Spot.
Different yet very much the same girl ... I don't know how to phrase it! She must have been nineteen here. I have to say, she looks so much more beautiful here when compared to the over airbrushed Lancome campaigns ... I love these pictures!

Sao Paulo Fashion Week

I have exciting news about a possible runway appearance from Daria! As we all know her last show was the Winter 2008 presentation of Versace, and apart from select appearances she doesn't do a lot of runway anymore (much to the dissapointment of us fans!). But there is a possibility Daria will walk again ...

"Yesterday Paulo Borges gave an interview on television and said that Gisele, Kate Moss, Daria Werbowy and Raquel Zimmermann will be on SPFW."

Paulo Borges is the director of Sao Paulo Fashion Week, so let's hope this is true - it would be Daria's first return to the catwalk in a long time.

Marie Claire Ukraine January 2009

Lots of news for the day! First, Daria is on the cover of the January issue of Marie Claire Ukraine. The cover photo looks relatively new and it seems like she has an interview inside. Hopefully it comes with new photos as well. So if anyone has this magazine maybe you can tell us what's inside :)

Also, eword found some great clippings on ebay from an Argentian (?) magazine. I think it's a very beautiful shoot - I love the second set of pictures. Unfortunately they are only snaps and not scans

And lastly, a new installment to Daria's new campaign this season - Roberto Cavalli. The whole campaign is very ironic kitsch. In the previous image from the campaign we had a tanned sex goddess but I like this image more - it reminds me of a playful pin-up.

I have to say it's much better than some of the previous Cavalli ads but the hedonistic aspect (tan, kitsch, gold and more gold) is still present.

It seems like Gisele Bundchen, the uber supermodel has been replaced by our very own Daria Werbowy. It actually surprised me quite a bit - I always that that Vogue eyewear focused on more of a celebrity angle and that's why they hired Gisele, a very well known model, to front the campaign.
However, I do like the first three shots here!

Tufi Duek: Behind the Scenes

A small article from the shooting of the Tufi Duek campaign - and roughly translated below.

Very pleasant and punctual, Daria arrived to the shooting giving kisses to everybody. She was interested by the clothes, ate a salad of watercress with cheese and oriental chicken and passed a good time conversing with Tufi. Her favorite piece was the pants sarong, which she ended up taking home.

Backstage pictures of the making of the Tufi Duek campaign have been revealed - so far I know that Kate Moss and Daria are in the campaign with David Sims as the photographer.
The shoot is a very simple studio shot but sometimes those always turn out to be the best.

It seems like Carine Roitfeld is taking the idea of a girl crush to a whole new leverl. Rumors are flying of a single girl issue, slated for February 2009 of a model Carine absolutely (and i quote) "adooooores". Seeing as Daria's had two covers in the past, and she's a favourite of Emmanuelle, she's one of the top contenders. But, there's always Lara, Anna S., Eva Herzigova and Lily Donaldson that are rumored to be up for the spot....
Regardless, it's a very interesting piece of information!

IMG models renewed their homepage, along with every model's pages and I decided to flip through Daria's site - I don't know where this Chanel ad could come from! I don't remember seeing this before, but I do know that she modeled for Chanel a couple of times, one campaign being my favourite of hers.

!t is finally here! The pirelli calendar and all of the images are ready to be seen (but not saved! stupid copyright!)

I've seen some of Peter Beard's work before - he's actually known for using his own blood in some of his images.
The shots in this calendar are very beautiful, some quite odd in the bunch, but for the most part I think it is quite impressive. In all of these I'd have to say Malgosia Bela and Daria (of course) are my two favourite girls. They both have rugged beauty to them. I'd have to say that February (extra 5) and the first image for March are my favourite shots of Daria.

Daria will be the face of brazilian brand Forum Tufi Duek, for season fall winter 2009. Daria will shoot in the first days of december by photographer David Sims, with styling by Joe McKenna in New York.

I've seen the website (here) and the current ad campaign is cute, nothing too interesting or special. it will be interesting though, to see daria in something new, even though we will see the results in a year!

A couple of Daria's oldest oldest magazine covers! I don't remember ever seeing these this big but here they are. I think the clin d'oeil cover is her earliest - it's from 1999!

Walk of Fame

Finally - my laptop is here! I can now update daily and with all the news as soon as I can - I feel complete again :P

Well the Walk of Fame was two nights ago and we can finally see what Daria did with that horrible cast! And her speech! And that dress!

She looked stunning. Honestly if I wore a cast like that.... well let's just say she looks better than most people would!
I love how Daria doesn't wear a big sparkly gown but a simple little black dress - she always stays true to her personal style.
It's so funny to see her at something like this because we all know she isn't fully comfortable with being a high profile model. Did you know that around her agency, IMG models, she is referred to as the "reluctant supermodel". I think she did her best under pressure. Her speech, although quite nervous was very endearing.

And to cement her supermodel status (cough) she's listed as Darla Werbowy and Daria Werbony at all the image sites! You can imagine I had a pretty hard time finding pictures.

Her acceptance video was so cute too! She looked quite embarrassed and it was so funny how she swore when she got teary eyed.

Also, before the event and red carpet Daria attended the Toronto International Film Festival E-talk party with Jeannie Beker, host of Fashion Television and fashion editor of Fashion magazine. Is it a coincidence that Emmanuelle Alt wore the MC hammer pants a while back? Daria has said she is her style idol...

Legs Will Travel

Trust Daria to break her foot before her first big event! Although she regularly walks in five inch heels on every catwalk in the world it looks like her feet can't handle a sailing trip.
She dropped an engine on her foot and walked around for three weeks without noticing she broke it! Haha, it's quite a funny story but I hope she gets better.
Hopefully she can rock a cast as well as Erin Wasson!

But we have proof that the cast can actually look alright. Darias friend Erin Wasson broke her foot a while back (hmm.. coincidence?) and she managed to look incredibly cooler than half of the population...

Wow… this is definitely a nice surprise to come back to … I though that topping my favourite editorial ever of Daria's (Vogue Paris “Air Libre”) was an impossible feat. Although it hasn’t replaced libre the new editorial of Daria’s in the September issue of Vogue Paris (shot by Inez & Vinoodh) is just as stunning. Black and white shots with a white canvas backdrop - Just the photographer and the model and the interaction between them. In my opinion it should be what photography is about, much like Richard Avedon’s work. Daria is ethereal in this! She manages to be so androgynous and rough yet you can’t ignore her feminine beauty. This is definitely the best editorial of the year – no exotic locations which turn out to be so tacky or excessive styling. Bravo Emmanuelle Alt and Inez & Vinoodh!

A few days ago I came across the Fashion Magazine interview - the usual questions of Daria's charity work with Lancome, her sailing in the summer and what she thinks of the whole Walk of Fame star ordeal.
But the interview also sheds a really interesting light on how Daria feels about modeling and what it has done to her life. At moments she is very regretful and at others she loves her job for the opportunities
The only thing that really really bugs me is that Fashion magazine gets ahold of one of the most beautiful girls and they manage to put one shot in the magazine…

Daria in Annabelle

Daria is on the cover of Annabelle, a German magazine, which features a photoshoot (shot by Derek Kettella - the picture from the last post is included) and an interview.

It seems like the picture I'm using below is quite a contradiction to what other people have gotten from the interview. Most people who have read it sensed some bitterness or hardness on Darias part - maybe they were more shocked to hear something of substance from a person they expect to be happy all the time because of her job... Now, seeing as the only German I know is Auf Wiedersehen (thanks Heidi Klum!), I'm waiting for a translation. For now though - the article and photos can be seen here

On that morning the wind is blowing heavily to south-west and hunts the clouds over the sky of New York. Through the window you can see the sun shining brightly into the photo studio- Daria Werbowy´s eyes blink, she helds her hand in front of her face like a sunblind. A summerday that seems to be created just for this little something that makes him to this special day: heading over to the sailing boat in rubber boots and a warm fleece jacket, tacking the mouth of the Hudson River until it begins to dawn. Other supermodels spend their free time in pilates- classes or go shopping until all the boutiques have closed. Daria Werbowy does those things too, sometimes, but her passion is sailing, the only thing that gets her every time again and again is being on the boat.Recently she was asked in Munich (by a journalist) if she was happy, in general. Whereupon she had no real answer to give: “What a tacky question” she complained.“Who asserts to be happy, lies. But people think because of a model`s ability of being rich and beautiful she can`t have problems. Absolute bullshit. I am not more or less happy than other people.” Little break: “ Except for… when I am sitting on my boat and hanging in my sail. Then the world is totally ok for me.”

Well instead of diversion on the Hudon River today a workday for Daria Werbowy: letting herself photograph. The capital of a model are her skin, teeth, hair and body. No doubt Daria Werbowy is one of the most successful models of the last six, seven years. She has stopped long ago to count her magazine covers. And she holds even two world records: In 2003 she ran on over 80 catwalks and 2003 she appeared 6 times on the cover of the Italian “Vogue” – the best-of-that-breed for eternity. Does this success mean that Daria Werbowy owns the straightest teeth and the most elegant back of the world?
From my place on the sofa in the corner of the studio I would claim: yes. On those teeth there´s nothing to criticize, and wanting to find somewhere a more appealing back than hers seems absolutely impossible. Indeed not too thin because she takes 3 full meals daily. Daria Werbowy looks very very healthy, her skin gleams in polish-ukranian pallor in the headlights.
And the observers glance speechless on this feat of a back that was formed by good nutrition and yachting.
annabelle: Daria Werbowy are you happy?
Daria Werbowy: Haha. Please not that early those complicated questions. We`d better have a chat. But while I am thinking about it: What should it mean at all this-being happy? Why is everyone striving for happiness nowadays? A thumb, unreachable aim. Isn`t it genial enough if we aren`t unhappy all the time?
That would last out for me.
And in all the years a few minutes of real happiness for change – no one minds that.
If you have just fallen in love being happy can even last for one or two weeks.
Arguably for one, two days. We want to stay realistic.
Daria Werbowy, who is turning 25 in November, started to gave regularly interviews aged 17, and therefore learned early what reporters expect from a supermodel: an egocentric, spoiled view on the environment, vain absence of humor and a constrictive fortune of expression. The clicheé that clouds over her profession goes like this: Since their puberty these girls don`t do anything other than looking pretty, so the conversations have to take place on a lowest level.
On the sofa, on the opposite of me, there is a young woman that works since she has been 14 full- time as a model; and would have every reason to talk lengthy about her existence. How she coiled through Europe, aged 17, and no one wanted to book her; how she was astonishingly discovered in New York with 19, meets well-known people and earns a vastly amount of money since then.
Though Daria Webowy, and this is not at all exaggerated possesses a brain of a chess grand master or at least of a distinguished poker player. You notice it by her gossamerly laughter at silly jokes- and how she tactical ably obviates operating uneducated. She is well versed in Ukrainian policy, geography and world economy, so she biases the conversation on the weak dollar and what consequences the recession has for her insets in the US- banks, or could emerge in her Ukrainian fatherland. “The evolutions are very joyless”, she determines.
How huge the quota of mind on the success of Daria Werbowy actually takes, is hard to snap. Here a theory: Without her cleverness and almost indifferent attitude towards the modelling business she wouldn`t have worked out a world career. Let`s ask the expert Jen, Daria Werbowy`s person in charge at her modelling agency IMG models. Jen smiles at us and says: “Looking beautiful isn`t enough in order to have a career like Daria`s. The girl has to trigger connotations on the observer. Intuitively he has to descry a personality. That works with Daria, because she really owns a personality. What does also help is if you are just liked by photographers and bookers. Everyone likes Daria, because there are just a few who are that uncomplicated like she is. “ Daria Werbowy herself can`t explain her success. Or she just has no delight for it: “ Why me of all people? No clearing reason overran me. I was lucky.”
Have you been happy today because you went to work?
I am a professional I go to work whether I want or not.
But it doesn`t necessarily count to your job to give an interview on the set.
Well today it`s about Lancome. We have created a series of cosmetics together that will also come on the Swiss market.
Please tell us something exciting about your cosmetics series.
My friend Vik Muniz is an artist in Rio de Janeiro and runs a project called “Centro Especial Vik Muniz”. He gives art lessons for the kids in the Favelas. It may sound queer, but with those courses he salvages the lives of many teenagers. Because he shows them a totally different, new perspective.
Laudable. In what way is that concerned with cosmetics?
The colors I have chosen are inspired by Brazil and the works of the children brown, green, blue- I have conceptualized the palettes together with Odile Roujol, the president of Lancome. She was zesty when she noticed that I have discovered a project my heart beats for. Discovering how the cosmetics industry works was fun.
What do the children get from it?
A part of the money goes in favor of the project. And I visit Vik regularly to help him with the lessons.
In 1983 Daria Werbowy was born in the Polish Krakow as a daughter of an Ukrainian engineer (father) and an Ukrainian teacher (mother). Four years later the family settled to Mississauga, a suburb of Toronto, where Daria Werbowy spent an “inconceivable happy childhood”, like she says. Whenever she talked English she earned a little cuff on her occiput: The engineer and the teacher consisted on table conversations in ukrainian or polish. Now the daughter possesses those two language nearly perfect- and two, three other languages also.
Daria Werbowy is one of those kind of girls that sooner rollicks on the sports ground with some boys than changes make up tipps. “ I play Basketball, Rugby, Beachvolleyball and Ice Hockey. As soon as there was snow I went Snowboarding, but most of the time I was sailing.” On the Ontario river Daria Werbowy drove sailing regattas a short while ago, where she even won some. At home in Toronto the goblets stand in the garage: “ I am proud of every victory.”
Daria Werbowy`s youth was determined aged 14, when a neighbour that worked at a Canadian Modelling agency discovered her at a gardenparty. In Toronto at first the business started well, but when she won a modelling competition and her agency sent her abroad, Daria Werbowy had to learn to handle with disappointments. The New York Fashion Week 2001 where her international debut was planed, sampled out because of the attacks on 11.September. After that she went a half year to Paris and 3 months a time in Hamburg, London and Milan: “ Probably that was the most important time of my career. I have manacled a fat fur. When someone deprecates me I don`t matter anymore.” Finally she head back to Toronto, gave up modelling and started her art study.
A year later Daria Werbowy visited a friend in New York, who argued her to participate in a casting. Two days later Marc Jacobs has booked her for his campaign and Prada for the shows in Milano. Until today she doesn`t really understand what has happened, but she is happy for every day she can spent as a supermodel. “ Because I know that millions of girls are dreaming of it, and chance is not going to help them like it did with me.” Until further notice she wants to practise her profession, but she feels that her euphoria slips, that photo shootings bore her more often.
What have you learned during the past ten years?
I have met a lot of people that showed me how I don`t want to become – and a few people that inspired me a lot. I have understood one, two things and even more about the modelling industry. The most important cognition: Everywhere in the world – and I have visited a lot of countries- the TV program is crummy. (those sentence above is printed huge under the main article)
I assert our world would be a more pleasant place if there were no TVs.
What did you not learn in that time?
Too much. We shouldn`t start with listing it. The biggest problem in my job: I am rarely more than 3 days at the same place. When I start something I can`t finish it. My study for example, or the pictures I am painting.
She can make up for it, she will make up for it- in the recent future. Long ago she has earned enough money to do with the rest of her life whatever she wants. Make the pilot`s licence? Salvage Orange- Utans from extinction ? When 19 she explained in an interview that she wants to save her money and build a company for interior design. Today she plans to open a gallery. Or maybe bandy to acting? She got one advice from a woman that spent her years of youth similar her`s: Isabella Rossellini was a model on 36 “Vogue”- Covers and became very late in her life an actress and artist. About her first profession she said the following: “ I have never earned that much money as I did in my modelling career. You can sell nothing that expensive as beauty. As a model you have to stay in the business as you can stay the taradiddle. Afterwards the real life is even more fun.” A credo that Daria Werbowy took seriously. She stands at the window of the photo studio and tries to spot the Hudson River, that you can nearly see from here. A last soundly look at her face. It`s almost mortifying to write that: she is indescribably beautiful. Daria Werbowy´s eyes shimmer turquoise like the Ocean in front of the Statue of Liberty; a wide awake face that is laughing most of the time and casing the surroundings like a detective. Her high cheekbones and the narrow eyes make you presume that Daria Werbowy`s forefathers had been Mongolian warriors.
On the other side of the river, in New Jersey, is a little marina where Daria Werbowy`s father makes the Sailing boat of the family ready for sailing. In summer the journey starts: Father, daughter, brother and 3 friends cross the Atlantic Sea. “ There`s nothing I am looking more forward than to our cruise”, says Daria Werbowy. “ Of course I am bit afraid of the open Sea, but if I vanquish them I`ll live to see the straight beatitude.”

The Jean Paul Gaultier ads we previewed so long ago are finally out. Out of all the three I really like the first one. Personally, I love this campaign. Usually I prefer Daria in her Isabel Marant, tomboy mode but this works as well.The composition and movement are very inspiring.

Fashion Magazine September 2008

I had a feeling this was coming... along with her charity work with Lancome and new walk of fame star this Fashion cover is fitting at the time. FASHION is a Canadian magazine and like most of Daria's previous issues with the magazine it will probably feature a photo shoot along with an interview. The cover is actually quite pretty (is it a surprise that Daria is in Versace? After all, she did make her runway return on the FW 2008 Versace runway.) The image is by Derek Kettela who has shot Daria quite often over the years, including her article in Glamour UK and Italy of this year.

I've also found this stunning picture on Derek's website - it flashes just before the sight opens. It reminds me of Irving Penn's work - not quite as striking but it is very sombre yet alive at the same time. Beautiful shot! I don't know if it's part of the Fashion article or not but I think it might have been a seperate shoot.

Lancome Campaign and the Case of the Disappearing Nose

The remaining shots of Daria's editorial were all scanned by diorette (thank you!) and can be seen here. Overall, this cover and editorial were a disappointment. I could have done without the outdoors shots, and I never understand the effect of both combining studio shots with outdoors ones.
By the way, this is my 100th post! I wont make it too corny but thank you to all the readers who come to the blog and mostly thanks to Daria for not quitting on us, and who still gives us wonderful editorials!

It seems like that h&m picture of Lily Donaldson and Daria was a precursor to another one of her new campaigns. Here we have the first pictures from the H&M Fall Winter 2008 campaign which are quite good, nothing too groundbreaking. Which leads me the the thought ... H&M campaigns usually lead to accompanying videos and I've loved the past two, so who knows - maybe we will get to see Daria fine tuning her acting skills yet again!

Vogue Paris August by Inez and Vinoodh

I was gone one for a week and look what I come back to! A Vogue Paris cover and accompanying editorial! I am still in the shock phase right now, and I really have no idea what to write... well actually I do!
In my opinion Vogue Paris is one of the few magazines that understands Daria's beauty and appeal, and they often showcase her in her natural spirit, with minimal makeup and styling akin to her own. Yet this time they're leaning in the opposite direction of why I find her so appealing.
I have to admit I would have loved a cover with Daria at her tomboy best, like the recent Isabel Marant campaign.
The issue is dedicated to Yves Saint Laurent, the late fashion designer who passed away this year, and I believe the magazine was going for the Le Smoking look he was known for. Yet this message is lost in the cover. The look comes off more stiff than effortless glamour.

H&M Fall Campaign? ... And the lemon tip, again!

A new picture from the H&M fall catalogue - perhaps Daria is the fall girl as well? As much as don't like Lily Donaldson's looks, this shot is very pretty on both of their behalves. The picture looks promising though, much better than the SS08 campaign.

And there is a new interview in a Finnish magazine. Nothing groundbreaking... but she gives the lemon tip again! :)

A Lost Supermodel
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing when the 22-year-old supermodel Daria Werbowy revealed that she doesn’t know whether she wants to work on the catwalk anymore. “I’ve changed and it’s time to give room for new girls. For the last three years I’ve been on top, but I’ve been modelling since I was 14.”

What will you do in the future?
I want to travel. I mean real backpack trips. I would also like to establish a café or a gallery, paint, design jewellery and sail. I just produced a film in Canada that my friend directed and wrote. Acting and directing interests me.

How do you take care of your skin?
I use eye cream in the morning and evening and a lot of moisturizer. Mascara and Juicy Tubes-lip gloss is enough for makeup. Here’s my grandmother’s tip: Squeeze lemon juice into a cotton pad and swipe your face with it. Wash off with warm water. It cleans the skin completely. I always use my grandmother’s recipe after fashion weeks. I make a peeling of lemon juice and sugar.

What is your favourite place?
Ireland. I did a car trip there last summer with a friend of mine. I love driving and like getting lost. If I have a bad day, I go for a ride.

What will you get for fall?
Marc Jacobs show was wonderful! Grunge is so chic. I want a big hat and strong, but natural eyebrows.

It is our appearance that is judged, and without a strong mental outlook, one does not last. In 2003, I changed; I was stronger and I was more sure of myself. I wanted to work again, above all to finance my art studies. I called IMG and returned to New York. Three days later, I did Marc Jacobs' fashion show and a week later I worked for Steven Meisel for Prada. Everything began to happen and it became my career."

"When I remember that I have become a model to finance my studies in painting, none of its strength is lost," she says. "I know it will not last forever, therefore I appreciate every moment."

Christian Dior fw08 Campaign

Here it is! The first of the Dior ads that we've been awaiting a long time - I can't believe Daria already has three campaigns for the fw08 season! Dior has a very Jackie O. 60's feel, but other than that it really doesn't leave a lasting impression. I feel quite neutral towards it, I don't love it as much as the Isabel Marant ad but I don't hate it as well. We'll have to wait to see more!

Covergirl Commercial (and the potential for commercialism)

The picture of Daria by Dana Gonzales (at right) actually came from a potential Covergirl commercial that was shot back in 2003. It was a test commercial that featured Marija Vujovic, Hana Soukupova, Raquel Zimmerman and Julia Stegner.

It is kind of weird to think where Daria would be right now if Covergirl had ultimately picked this new direction to go with. For those of you who don't know much about this makeup brand, their focus is quite commercial and to the masses. If anyone watches Americas Next Top Model (yes, it is sadly my vice) then you will know that it is the winning "models" prize. we haven't had daria news in a while and apart from the dior ads were still waiting for two new ad campaigns come out! its a very good day because I am absolutely in love with the Isabel Marant ad campaign. the campaign with Angela was absolutely amazing last season - simple, grayscale, very minimal... and this is perfect! Daria doing Daria - beautiful. I love the pose her expression... ahhh bliss.

im not so sure about the jpg ads. usually i dont like them and these pictures remind me of an editorial daria did a while back for v magazine. ill have to see them in hq to see if i really like them but they're not too amazing for me

just came back to a quick trip to the computer from watching soccer (Croatia vs. turkey -still 0-0!). it seems just in time - the new pictures from the vogue us editorial have been posted. its very standard vogue us fair (gray backgrounds, jumping models....) but this time I'm not complaining. actually I'm quite pleased (considering the stupid stuff shes had to do in the past)
anytime that a vogue us editorial gives me more than one image to love then its OK by me
to be honest i was prepared to hate this but out of Daria's usual work in vogue us some of the pictures make the editorial interesting, like these ones i featured. Daria is so strong in these and i envy the fact she can jump so high in stilettos (Linda evangelista pose off anyone?). she plays her characters so well with being strong yet feminine at the same time - she sort of reminds me of a superhero in these

seems like the w set for the summer camp shoot was the place to be. wmagazine.com posted three videos of the shoot including our lovely daria in number two. screencaps below (including my favourite one front and centre) and the video here

I'm off to school soon but i just saw a preview of the W editorial and the cover! Daria is on the new issue along with Lara Stone and Kate Moss. I will be back with more soon but, to fill the void, here are some pictures and the entire collection at w.com here. I can't talk for too long I really have to hurry but so far I think this is very promising!

I am back! Sorry for leaving you with such a cryptic preview. I've only just had a full look at all of the pictures and I have concluded a few things
one: Lara Stone has some pair of boobs (Is that how you would phrase it? Probably not) two: she shows them off in probably 99% of the shots (not complaining) and three: Daria still manages to capture my attention (oh and four: Kate moss is cool and all but her looks are really starting to wear down - she looks very aged in these shots, albeit a bit mundane. I love the girl but i can see where the term "Kate overload" comes from)

This has to be one of my favorite shots. compare Daria's to Kates. Daria just draws you in while Kate sort of looks spaced out. and Lara sort of looks like she's giggling behind the covers :D
overall i really like this editorial. mostly because its just Daria along with the models being themselves - Daria is left very natural and so is Lara. It is a very interesting editorial to look at with many different elements and directions but it works together. Its convinced me to finally buy a w after all the dubious shit they put out the past couple if issues

There With Flare ... and Daria

i was just looking through an old archive of Daria videos when i came across the there with flare video - Daria had just shot her cover (i think it was her fifth?) with the magazine and i think it was one of the most interesting conversations with her to date

i just realised that shes about the only model that captivates me in terms of what she has to say. i was watching an interview with isabeli fontana on fashiontv today and it was five minutes of my life ill never get back. the girl is gorgeous but really all she had to say was "i will wear something short, and sexy... short and short!" when asked how she celebrates new year....
Daria on the other hand actually has some insight into what she does. for her its more of a job than it is a lifestyle and that's why i like her - because she has other interests than "like, we get to wear cool clothes".
