Back From Vacation

I'm back from vacation and back to a lot of news. Daria isn't on the cover of any issues of Vogue and hasn't returned to working with Steven Meisel but she has been busy the past few weeks.
First - Daria's never-ending streak of Elle covers. Since I've been gone she's appeared on five more international versions of Elle, racking her total up to 11 covers this year! And all from one editorial! There's nothing nicer than seeing Daria on three different issues in the airport magazine shops. Needless to say I bought all three, if not just for Daria then also for the fact that a 10 hour flight was in my schedule.

Daria has also been seen hanging out with photographer Terry Richardson, in these three candid shots from his blog terrysdiary.com. This can mean that Daria has a new editorial, maybe even a cover, lensed by Terry in the future. Terry's work ususally pops up in Vogue Paris and Vogue Russia, so I'd keep my eyes on future issues from these magazines.

There have also been tons of unpublished photos that keep popping up, mostly outtakes from Daria's recent editorials in Flare and Elle Canada. Its great to see more photos from otherwise smaller editorials, and it kind of fills the void we've all been feeling from Daria's lack of editorial work recently.

Daria has six campaigns to her name for the 2011 winter season so far. To be honest I'm not really excited by any of these. Most of the campaigns are rehashes of old material (Stefanel, Oroton, Balmain, Joseph) and the others just follow the same formula of WASPs on location (Salvatore and Hugo Boss). Maybe another YSL campaign will make up for it? Yes?

Anyways I've updated the site with all of these new images, including finishing the Covers section (all done!) and uploading all of Daria's editorials from 1999 to 2003. There's still work to do on the site but I thought a post like this might bring us up to date.

A Look Back

Nine months of no updates (I don't know how some of you still came to visit but thank you so much!) and I've finally caught up on most of Daria's work. From my calculations there have been:

17 Editorials
10 Covers
9 Interviews
8 Ad Campaigns
6 Public Appearances
3 Runway Shows (!!)
2 Calendars

I have to say, looking back at the photos from the past year I am mostly suprised by a couple of things. First, Daria walking in three shows in such a small time space! We all know she isn't a major runway presence anymore but nevertheless it was great to see her walking in Paris and New York! If anything it just shows her allegiance to designers and photographers. She walked for Tom Ford who she worked really closely with during 2003-2004 (who can forget her Fall 2004 campaign under Tom Ford's direction), the Hakaan show which is under the creative direction of Mert Alas of photographers Mert & Marcus who love photographing Daria and of course another appearance at Daria's favourite - Balmain.

Another surprise was seeing Daria at an actual event! Nonetheless it was for Lancome but it was  cute seeing her pose with Kate Winslet and Mario Testino on the red carpet, completely oblivious to the makeup and fancy dresses that her colleagues wore. I still don't understand how a spokesperson for a makeup brand can show up to an event without so much as a bit of mascara!

I've also noticed the rise of the beach editorial. It seems like more than anything Daria has become super comfortable with showing her body. So much so, that whenever I got the chance to see any new pictures I was surprised that they constantly lacked any, well, clothing! But the images I've seen are beautiful and the portray Daria as the person, rather than just another model.
But perhaps one of my favourite news was Daria as the face of Celines Spring Summer 2011 ad campaign! I've been a huge fan of creative director Phoebe Philo since her days at Chloe and I love her work at Celine. The campaign, photographed by Juergen Teller was just so cool! And to see Daria with a skateboard was even better - coming from a fellow boarder I wish I looked that cool travelling around campus.

Blablabla, enough about my rambles. I'll update the site with the newest images ASAP but for now I'll just post on new things to keep the site less redundant. Also congratulations to anyone that read this far into the post, but I just felt the need to comment a bit on what has happened in Daria's career!

Happy Birthday Daria!

Today is Daria's 26th birthday! I want to make a post just to say happy birthday Daria (who knows - maybe you've come across this site once), and many more to come! I also want to make a quick shout out to all the readers of the site - thanks for coming everyday and bearing with my odd musings here and there. It's always a nice surprise to see a new follower or a comment.

And also, a thank you to Daria who keeps inspiring me to run this site. Ever since I first became interested in models and fashion Daria was the first model I really noticed. She has managed to remain the most beautiful and interesting of the bunch! And because no post is ever complete without a picture I wanted to include this editorial. It was the first time I learned of Daria the model, and coincidentally this editorial was also the first issue of Vogue that I bought. It was the Age issue and I remember devouring every article ... particularly one feature in which Daria talks of her modeling experiences so far, and her life as a twenty year old woman. Who knows, maybe one day she'll be featured in the "Thirties" section! But for now enjoy your birthday D!

Vacation Delay

I'm sad to say that I'll be away for a couple of weeks - I'm leaving to catch a flight in literally ten minutes - and I wont be able to update during my trip. However, I'll try to find a computer in whatever hotel I am staying at to try and update the site!

It comes at a really bad time considering the August issue of VP is about to be released, but don't worry I will be back to posting as soon as I am home! For now I'll leave you with a screencap from Daria's Summer 2008 H&M spot ... hopefully I'll look half as good as this at the beach!

Happy Birthday Daria!

Today is the day ... 25 years ago Daria was born! Wow, 25 years old! I hope she doesn't have a quarter life crisis! But seriously, I hope Daria has a great birthday and to another great year! Happy Birthday Daria!

The Daria Files Gallery

A long project in the making (with many failed tries) but ... I've finally built up the gallery to a presentable amount! The Daria Files Gallery is still relatively new but I've added most of Daria's editorials from 2007 & 2008, including some candids and event pictures. Hope you enjoy!

Happy 100!

The rest of Daria's editorial "Reality Show" from the August issue of Vogue Paris were scanned by diorette at the Fashion Spot.

Overall, this cover and editorial were a disappointment. I could have done without the outdoors shots, and I never understand the effect of both combining studio shots with outdoors ones.

By the way, this is my 100th post! Thank you to all the readers who come to the blog and mostly thanks to Daria for not quitting on us, who still gives us wonderful photos!

Independance Girl

I'll be away for the next week at my cottage, so I won't be able to update the blog :( But I will leave you with one of my favourite pictures of Daria from her Independance Girl editorial shot by Mario Sorrenti for Paris Vogue - classic Daria!

I ♥ Daria Werbowy

The Dara Files is the latest of my blogging ventures. I've decided to create a website in honour of my absolute favourite model, Daria Werbowy.

Vogue US September 2007 "Shift Into Neutrals"

She's versatile, gorgeous and incredibly smart. She can rock an edgy Numero shoot and still look interesting in a boring Vogue US editorial. She holds the records for most opened shows in her Spring 2004 season. She's topped the Forbes highest payed models list numerous times. So why not have a website dedicated to her work as well?
