Twice Is Nice ... Harper's Bazaar Germany & Fashion Magazine

I'm sure most Daria fans know by now that in terms of work when it rains, it really pours. That's why I've got two editorials to share with you in this post, spanning across both sides of the Atlantic. The first is a beauty editorial from newly launched Harper's Bazaar Germany and the second a return to Canadian Fashion.

The Harper's Bazaar editorial is a beauty shoot, which makes sense on a business basis. Daria is the face of Lancôme and these kind of features are in order. Personally I've never been a fan of them save for the odd shoot. I would have loved to see the direction HB Germany would have taken with an editorial shoot. There are some beautiful images here but I feel like I've seen it before.

This Fashion editorial is much more my taste. Its also a refreshing contrast to the more low maintenance approach Daria has taken in her editorials. Her Vogue UK feature confirmed that Daria is now her own manager than ever but its nice to see her change gears and dress up in a biker/post-punk/grunge mashup ... is that what you would call it? Either way how amazing is that first picture? Daria makes a good Charlotte Rampling?

Behind the Scenes with ET Canada

Apart from Linda Evangelista, Daria is Canada's most famous modelling export. So when she lands the cover of a local magazine, its big news. Which I love because it means interviews on interviews, and usually a segment on a cheesy news show. As such, ET Canada filmed a behind the scenes look of the Fashion cover story:

It seems that this editorial was shot around the same time that Daria was in town for the Lancome "Roses by ..." exhibit. I'm excited to see how the biker theme translates onto print - you can never really go wrong with models and bikes can you?

Fashion usually hits newsstands at the beginning of the month so I'll try to get this scanned if scans don't already start popping up!

FASHION Magazine October 2013

Cover overload! Sorry to be repetitive but here is another cover to share with you guys. This time its for Fashion Magazine's October 2013 issue. Fashion is a Canadian magazine that has championed Daria from the beginning and this is her ninth appearance on the cover!

I guess this is good news for those of us who can't get our hands on the German issue of Harper's Bazaar.  I'm personally not the biggest fan of this magazine (case in point, this cover ...) but every time Daria makes an appearance I pick up an issue. There are usually only one or two photos in the feature so I'm hoping they publish more this time around.

I don't know if its that I've become lax to fashion but I've been a fan of mostly everything Daria has put out lately. Granted, this cover doesn't go along with the more natural persona that Daria has been projecting as of late but there's something about a cover so obviously fashion, for lack of a better word, that I love. Sometimes you just need chandelier earrings and a blow out on a cover. But then again maybe this is just the heat wave in town talking.

From The Archives | Outtake Special : David Ferrua

I've posted a bunch of outtakes recently and I have another one today for you readers! This is an outtake from Daria's photoshoot with David Ferrua which I believe was for the February 2007 issue of Fashion magazine ("Daria Reigning Darling" under the Editorials page!). Its a really pretty picture but hasn't Daria changed over the years! This is so different from her tanned skin and golden hair she's sporting today. What do you like best?

I decided to post a couple of Daria's oldest magazine covers! I don't remember ever seeing these covers in such high quality so here they are. I think the 1999 Clin d'oeil cover is her earliest. I'll make sure to add these to the gallery!

Mixed Feelings : Fashion Magazine September 2008

A few days ago I came across the Fashion Magazine interview from their September 2008 issue with Daria on the cover. It has the usual interview questions of Daria's charity work with Lancome, her sailing in the summer and the behind the scenes of modeling ... but it also contains some interesting text on what Daria thinks of the whole Walk of Fame ordeal.

The interview sheds an interesting light on how Daria feels about modeling and what it has done for her in life. At moments she is very critical of her job and at other moments she loves it for the opportunities it has given her. It's a really great read that touches on the dynamic that one faces when working for such a superficial industry.

In the end it is just posing for a picture and I think that gets to Daria sometimes. But its great to see that she uses her platform to get involved with charities and organizations, especially ones close to her heart like Centrao Especial and other art groups.

The only thing that really really bugs me about this editorial is that Fashion magazine gets ahold of one of the most requested girls in the business and they manage to publish one photo. Grr ...

I had a feeling this was coming... along with her charity work with Lancome and new walk of fame star this Fashion cover is fitting at the time. FASHION is a Canadian magazine and like most of Daria's previous issues with the magazine it will probably feature a photo shoot along with an interview. The cover is actually quite pretty (is it a surprise that Daria is in Versace? After all, she did make her runway return on the FW 2008 Versace runway.) The image is by Derek Kettela who has shot Daria quite often over the years, including her article in Glamour UK and Italy of this year.

I've also found this stunning picture on Derek's website - it flashes just before the sight opens. It reminds me of Irving Penn's work - not quite as striking but it is very sombre yet alive at the same time. Beautiful shot! I don't know if it's part of the Fashion article or not but I think it might have been a seperate shoot.
