Behind The Scenes of ... Fard Fatal

Finally! After a few weeks of tedious waiting Lancome uploaded the fifteen minute video of Daria's editorial in May Vogue Paris "Fard Fatal". I'm trying to upload this huge file onto the site but for now you can see the entire thing here! *Edit: video added to post below

To tide you all over, I've screen capped some images from the video ... mostly my favourite moments. Daria looks so pleasant and fun to work with, although I have to admit sometimes she looked just as bored of Aaron de Mey's speeches as I was! I love seeing backstage moments such as these. It really makes you appreciate an editorial so much more when you see how much work goes into a few pages. Its so easy to forget about the teams of people that go into the making of one editorial - makeup artists, photographer, models, assistants, the assistants to assistants ... this video made me go back to my issue of Vogue Paris and pore over the images just to see if I had missed anything from before.

Update Cecilia has kindly uploaded the video onto youtube! Enjoy!

Vogue Paris May 2010 | Fard Fatal

The first editorial, "Fard Fatal", from the May issue of Vogue Paris has been scanned. Ben Hassett is once again the photographer and Aaron de Mey the makeup artist. This time around the colours and setup in this beauty feature are far more extreme.

Daria Werbowy by Ben Hassett

"One side, a sexy version of Daria skin bronzed ... at the other the iconic side of Daria a pale face ... two colour palettes, to match summer ideals, led to the extreme by Aaron de Mey. In both cases a party girl at high voltage, ready to mesmerize." A really rough translation of the first page (French always sounds worse when translated) but it should give you some notice about the editorial. The extreme bronzer  and pale cheeks do make more sense when put into perspective.

Although some may be hesitant at the exaggerated colour palettes it is precisely why I like this editorial. Since the past two hours after I first saw Fard Fatal I have warmed up to its odd colours and over the top styling. Makeup artists rarely get to express their dramatic visions aside from runways, as magazines always tend to favour natural and "nude" colours. The attention to detail is stunning and only more enhanced by Daria's poses - I am particularly in awe by the third image. Its quite a departure from Daria's last beauty editorial "Esprit Libre" but both shoots have their own charming singular qualities.

Also, just a heads up that Daria's second editorial in Vogue Paris, La Décadense, is a tribute of sorts to Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg ... I'm glad I'm not the only one seeing the similarities!

VP Cover Confirmed

Daria's last cover, August 2008
As we had guessed, Daria is on the cover of the May 2009 issue of Vogue Paris! A review was posted at the Fashion Spot forums:
The cover feats Daria front shot wearing denim jacket, and khaki ensemble (short + vneck tshirt made brassière), and a besace with fringe on right shoulder. something pretty sexy militarian. she's wearing a long necklace with a shell pendant and two bracelets made of this dark blue stone (never know its name). she's holding the collar of the denim jacket with her right hand and left hand on her hips (i guess you can imagine the pose). smoky eyes and hair waxed in the back ... sunset in the back. the Vogue font is dark blue, the rest of typo is white and blue.
Sounds interesting! Along with the cover Daria has two editorials in this issue, one a full length editorial going with the theme of the cover and another beauty editorial photographed by Ben Hassett.
Game Girl by Inez & Vinoodh and Emannuelle Alt, ft. Daria W. (and boys)
14p. colour / 2 double page
"Daria is fighting with boys on the same road I&V shot Lara Stone for V.I. and the latest Balmain campain (I assume !). She's wearing bikinis (leopard, purple tye&die, vichy etc. patterns. matched/unmatched ensemble). She's wearing denim jackets or shorts and cowboy boots. not that bad for a bikini meets denim theme."

Esprit Libre by Ben Hasset and Julia von Boehm, ft. Daria
5p. colour, portraits
Beyond excited to see this! Daria's last cover of Vogue Paris was the August 2008 issue (above). I'll post images of the newest pictures as soon as they're posted online!
