Dossier #5 Outtakes

I was going to save these for another Flashback Friday but I couldn't wait that long. These outtakes of Daria by Cass Bird are too good not to share with you guys!

I think the love for Cass Bird and Daria's work is unanimous in this blog and among all of Daria's fans. That's why it's so great when we get to see new collaborations between the two. This time for Flashback Friday I have two unseen outtakes (at least to me!) from the Dossier editorial "I drew a map of Canada with your face sketched on it twice" (award for the longest editorial title goes to ...).

The pictures are quite pixelated, so it looks like there must be higher quality images out there somewhere. For the moment I can't find any but regardless ... Enjoy! And hopefully we get to see more of Cass and Daria's work in the future.

I Drew A Map Of Canada ...

I've waited a while to post on Daria's editorial in Dossier magazine - now thanks to a blogger we have scans of her images inside.

I Drew A Map Of Canada ... With Your Face Sketched On It Twice
Dossier Issue 5 Spring 2010
Daria Werbowy by Cass Bird

Being something of an architecture/home style buff I am really excited to see these. We've all had hints of Daria's apartment in past editorials, but I don't think we've ever seen her this, pardon the pun, "at home". These photos feel more like a set of candids between friends than a feature in a magazine. I love Cass Bird's photography and how she manages to take such personal photos without worry of the clothing or product placement. The second shot below is one of my favourites, so whimsical and modest. I also love the fact that Daria rides ... not as great as skating but she's cool in my book. I never thought that Daria would be one of the models who would be featured in a home style shoot. Considering the fact that she almost rarely reveals personal information, and she is not one to be snapped leaving nightclubs or shopping, it is quite surprising. A pleasant surprise though!

Also, a note to write that another small part of the Fard Fatal DVD has been uploaded online ... we're yet to see the full fifteen minutes though.

Dossier Magazine #5

I knew those photos of Daria by Cass Bird had to amount to some press. Daria is on the cover and is inside the newest issue of Dossier. And yes, just because I didn't know what it was either ... Dossier is a biannual independent magazine published for people who like their magazines with some substance. They have a really well curated site if you want to take a visit.

Daria will be in a photo editorial shot at her home by Cass Bird. We've all seen her home in previous articles, but its nice to see different perspectives, especially from a photographer like Bird. Its also great to see Daria in lesser known publications like Dossier. I've written about certain artistic freedom present with freelance photographers compared to the well knowns like Testino and Demarchelier, and I think this freedom translates to publications as well. Its not often you see such an unretouched image on covers these days, free of hair styling or unflattering makeup. Its also a great testament to the fact that a smaller publication can make Daria look the most young and beautiful she's looked in a while.

Also, I just read up on some interesting information. Fashionologie recently posted a piece on Marc Jacob's Fall 2010 collection for Louis Vuitton. If you remember it was the collection heralding a comeback of sorts of the "womanly" model. In Marc's words: “I believe that these iconic, larger-than-life women are very Vuitton-like . . . This season we talked about it and we decided the criteria was, they have to be available on the day of the show and they have to be gorgeous,"  ... We wanted Daria [Werbowy], but she was booked for a shoot.'" It's interesting to hear his take on a new modeling phenomena. Seeing Daria on the Vuitton catwalk would have been great, in all of the Bardot inspired dresses. But at least we know there is a new shoot to come from this!
