Vogue UK March 2014 Editorials

I can fully support this crush that Vogue UK has on Daria. The cover of the March issue and two editorials inside, and thats just on the heels of her September 2013 cover. Daria's two editorials inside are Rainbow Babes by Mario Testino and Cause Celebre by Kate Moss.

I'll save the best for last and start off with Rainbow Babes. I was so excited to see Daria working with Testino again (their last editorial was in December 2010!) but this editorial is a let down. There are three things that I hate in this world: xenophobia, injustice and chunky jewellery. And this styling isn't doing much to change my mind on the last one. Hopefully this will come off better in print but for now this is going in a shoebox on a shelf in the back of my mind. Re: I really don't like it.

But then Mossie saves the day with Cause Celebre, her first work as a stylist for British Vogue. Trust Kate to go for something rock influenced but I love that she went with lesser known band Destroy All Monsters for inspiration. The wigs and makeup and set design are amazing, and finally someone puts some makeup on Daria. Definitely would have been a better choice for a cover. Re: Love

Vogue UK March 2014 Cover

I knew it was only a matter of time before this came out! Daria covers the March 2014 issue of Vogue UK photographed by Mario Testino. It's her second time covering the British version of Vogue in less than a year (her last was in September 2013) and her fifth cover for the magazine overall!

Daria also has two editorials inside (!!), "Rainbow Babes" by Mario Testino and "Cause Célèbre" by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott. Kate Moss styled the latter and it is her debut as fashion editor for the magazine, so this whole issue is a bit of a ... cause célèbre for lack of better words. I'm glad Mossie picked Daria to be in this issue (model friends are the best kind of friends) and judging by the previews below I'm much more excited for Kate's editorial than I am for the cover shoot. Its a shame they had to style Daria in yet another bohemian look for the cover. I don't know what this boycott against eye makeup is, but this styling is seriously getting old. I'll hold my thoughts for the editorial until I see it but the cover is definitely not a favourite.

Things To Look Forward To

Daria has really been churning out the work as of late. But if these candids and Instagrams are any indication, then 2014 should be just as busy as the end of 2013 was. Here are some things to look forward to:

Daria worked with makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury, hair stylist Christiaan and wardrobe stylist Kate White. White often works with W magazine, and this was from a shoot with Mert and Marcus, so my best guess is on a W magazine editorial for the new year.

In perhaps the most interesting of previews Daria worked with Mert and Marcus for a Vogue UK story styled by none other than Kate Moss! If you haven't heard Mossie joined the Vogue UK team as a Contributing Fashion Editor. I'm sensing a March cover in Daria's foreseeable future ...

Daria is seen here with Yann Weber who works with both L'Express Styles and Antidote magazine. Daria just had a recent editorial in L'Express but this candid below is from a shoot for Antidote. It's an amazing publication so I'm so excited to see how this will turn out.

Daria and Andrea Tremolada of Salvatore Ferragamo so expect another Ferragamo campaign for Spring 2013! Hmm Marant, DVF and Celine, take note!

A very zen Daria on set with stylist Alastair McKimm. I'm not too familiar with his work but I do know that Alastair mostly works with i-D magazine and The Last Magazine ... but it could really be for anything. Have I also ever mentioned how much I love saying the name Alastair? ... Alastair.

There's been a bit of a shuffle over at Mango with Daria replacing Miranda Kerr as the face of the brand. She shot with Josh Olins in a desert somewhere. Honestly I've seen enough desert editorials to last me a life and a half but regardless I can't wait to see how these turn out.

Daria also worked with Alexi Lubormiski for a Lancome advertisement. I think the Instagram below right is from this shoot because the hairstyle does look quite similar. I'm hoping for a bunch of new Lancome ads because it has been quite a while!

So thats an editorial in W Magazine, a potential cover and editorial in Vogue UK, work in Antidote, the new Salvatore Ferragamo campaign, Mango Spring 2013, an editorial with Alastair McKimm and a return to Lancome. Phew ... did I miss anything?

Vogue UK September 2013 : Rebel Rebel

It's my favourite time of the year, not just because it happens to be my birthday, but because the September issues have started rolling out! We're on the cusp of a new season and luckily for us Daria is dominating the magazines this month. Starting with an editorial in the September issue of Vogue UK.

Daria by Patrick Demarchelier

Fitting that a David Bowie song is used for this editorial title, seeing as how Daria is a big fan of the Englishman's music. And, like the musician, she herself has carved out a singular path in her respective industry. Vogue UK has also been one to 'rebel' against the formula of the magazine industry. This year seven out of their nine covers were models, practically unheard of in this time of Hollywood starlet overdrive. What better than a combination of Daria and Vogue UK for the September issue - a model who rebels against the norm in a magazine choosing to do the.

The styling in this shoot is brilliant as are Demarchelier's portraits of Daria. Despite being a veteran in this industry Daria still surprises me with her modeling skills and nuances. She elevates a studio editorial to something much more intimate, a collection of portraits that convey her nomadic personality. They're a beautiful accompaniment to the article inside, which you have to read if you're a fan, and even more so if you're not. There are some new things to learn, of Daria's life in Ireland and of a fairy-tale romance with a carpenter, but its also a great insight to a woman who has grown up in an industry that both inspires her, and leads her to take month-long sailing trips away from her work. She is entirely "the reluctant supermodel".
