The rumors were true! Daria is Vogue Russia's latest covergirl! She graces the November 2009 issue of Vogue Russia and is photographed by Terry Richardson. Considering the photographer and magazine I am pleasantly surprised. As of late, I've been impressed by Vogue Russia but I've never really been won over by their aesthetic. The brash colours and harsh styling are not really my taste.
However, I think Vogue Russia's aesthetic pairs very well with Terry Richardson's photography. His photos go well with the flashy ideal of new money that Vogue Russia perpetuates. Fittingly, Daria is promoting Lancome's latest Declaring Indigo makeup palettes in the editorial, and the end results are great - very reminiscent of strong eighties editorials . Hopefully, there will be more shots and scans soon!
GORGEOUS!!! I love it!! But Vogue Russia always puts too much make up on the models, it makes them look almost vulgar. They did the same with Magdalena and Kate...
ReplyDeleteI don't know if you knew but Daria's last name is Verbowa in Russian, isn't it lovely?
I think as katenka. Daria is prettier with a more minimalist makeup. Here is TOO makeup. But it's beautiful anyway
ReplyDeleteIf by judging various comments on other fashion sites, the general consensus is the people do not like the Daria cover or ed. It would see Russia has a different aesthetic to VP,V.U.S,Italia, etc. I mean that's obvious it's a different country. Even the use of Terry Richardson has not appeased some people. I happen to think she looks like a hot Russian girl who wears far too much Lancome make-up. What's wrong with that??? :)
ReplyDelete^ let's say a tacky rich woman, a daria zukhova instead of our daria! :p
ReplyDeletejk, it's not a matter of geography, it's that over-make-up always creates a drag effect on daria if there's not enough photoshop to correct her features. she is rather natural here (terry's realism!), so at the end, after first impact disappointment, i find the pics more gender daring that i thought at first.
Ehh, that's why I was apprehensive about the Vogue Russia cover - in fact I knew it would turn out to be like this editorial ... it is too 'much' in all aspects. The makeup, the styling ... I much rather like a more simple 'bare' approach in editorials
ReplyDeleteAnd although its interesting to explore different themes, I felt that this shoot was quite tame for Richardson. Maybe we'll see something different in the scans?
