LOVE Magazine Issue Three

Just as I thought this month couldn't be more of a surprise, Daria covers the Spring issue of  LOVE magazine. It seems that LOVE, for lack of a better word, loves their multiple covers - Daria, Lara Stone, Kristen McMenamy and newcomer Janeil Williams all have separate covers. With five days left until the release of this issue the possibility of even more cover stars arises.

I'll just address the elephant in the room ... Daria is really giving Lara Stone a run for her money. It seems that she is joining the Dutch model as one of fashions more "revealing" models, in the most literal sense. There is no question that she looks amazing. I can't help but wonder how much of a models awareness is present when shooting nudes. Even the most beautiful girls must have some insecurities and I wonder how each model reacts when shooting something like this. Kristen McMenamy has an interesting take on the whole situation and it provides some insight into what races through a models mind during a shoot such as this.

I like the concept of four different models in the same setting. If anything, it only further illustrates how beauty can be presented in many different forms, albeit all a size 0. Lara, Kristen, Janiel and Daria all encompass different beauties, yet they are all alike in the fact that they are strong enough a model to pull this off. Mert and Marcus are the photographers and you can see a definite reference to Helmut Newton in these. Hopefully an editorial will accompany this cover -  I'm curious to see how this cover will continue - but for now enjoy this latest piece of Daria news!

  2. In a 'fashion-yeah but it's art' kinda way they are selling meat. No matter how my dear feminist but fashion loving heart tries to rationalise they most certainly, in my humble opinion are selling meat. Furiously if the numerous covers indicate. Cause they sure ain't selling clothes. OK, maybe shoes :) Guess I'll have to see the issue in whole context to make a really really sound judgment. Daria's Vogue Nippon-Nov 09 ed 'Girl of the Golden Field' was an amazing lesson in beautifully subtle nudity and a little something left to the imagination and believe or not some clothes were also featured in that ed as well. Imagine that.

  3. i would've hoped for some kind of variety from the cover poses but oh well. btw do you have any of Daria's old polaroids? i saw one online(a small one) and thought it'd be fitting to have a collection of her polaroids here.

  4. ^ Anonymous101 - there is a small collection of Polaroids under the "Candids" page. Unfortunately there aren't that many Polaroids of Daria out there, at least ones concerned with work. Is the Polaroid you saw different from the ones I have - I'd love to see it!

anonymous and addyads: Katie Grand said this on the covers and I thought it was interesting ...
"For this issue of LOVE, we took eight women who are generally acknowledged as the most beautiful in the world, got them to show off their bodies - widely regarded as the most perfect in the world - and photographed them all in exactly the same position for the cover," LOVE's editor-in-chief Katie Grand told VOGUE.COM. "We did this to show how much they differed physically from one another, which is why we also printed their measurements."
"The point is that 'perfection' is not fixed, timeless or transcendent," Grand - who put Beth Ditto on the cover of the first ever issue of LOVE - explained. "It varies, as the measurements of our cover girls show."

They could have done without the measurements. It contradicts what they are trying to say. The models even have a "From _____" stamp. The overall aesthetic reminds me of Barbies and we all know Barbies are not the ideal beauty!

Girl of the Golden Field ... I almost forgot that that was a clothes editorial! But yes, addyads you're right. It was very subtle and nuanced and very much the opposite of this cover. There is no denying that all the woman look great but ... there is something very manufactured about this.
I, like you, will hold my complete judgment until the end though!
