Wild Irish Rose
Bad news - there's no Mert and Marcus editorial in the September issue of Vogue ... but will an Annie Leibovitz editorial make up for it? Daria and Adam Driver, star of HBO's "Girls", are photographed for a fashion story in County Kerry, Ireland.

I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say everyone was expecting those Mert and Marcus candids from Venice to finally come to fruition in this issue. After all, they were shot way back in April and if my industry timing is correct then they should have been in print by now. There's also the possibility that the entire editorial could have been scrapped. It's happened before (Raquel Zimmermann's editorial in the September 2007 issue of Vogue) and with the magazine's mammoth budget its not entirely impossible. Although it would be such a shame considering how beautiful the candids were ... I still have hopes for the October issue though!
On to the editorial we actually get to see! Annie Leibovitz takes us to the rugged terrains of Ireland with the unexpected coupling of Daria and Adam Driver. I think this editorial might be the result of those candids of Grace in Ireland. I'm a sucker for the Vogue 'couple editorial' and a photoshoot in Ireland has always been on my wishlist for Daria. I'm sure these will look even more beautiful in print as most of Leibovitz's work does.
I don't have too much to say other than I really do love this shoot and the fact that Daria is shown in minimal makeup, true to her 29 years. That Vogue is still loyal to models reaching their thirties, and presents them in their actual light, is refreshing in such an ephemeral industry.

St Barths to Venice to London
We've been getting so many behind the scenes pictures of Daria lately - great to see because it just means more work in the upcoming months! To recap we've seen behind-the-scenes pictures of an upcoming spread in Vogue Espana with Patrick Demarchelier, and Mert Alas and Daria at work in Venice for an editorial in US Vogue. The pics below are also from Daria's work with Mert, taken by an Italian news site.
The pink coat Daria is wearing is from Bottega Veneta pre-fall 2013 so I expect we should see these images in the July or August issue of Vogue, if I'm getting my collections correct. I love the classic hair and Venice is a beautiful place so I'm more than sure these images will be translated beautifully in print.

London based hair stylist Paul Hanlon also posted a picture of him and Daria in London. They've worked together before, mostly editorial work, so hopefully something will come of their meeting! All in all we've got three editorials to look forward to!
"Beyond Daria !! Such a beauty and such a nice person!! Pleasure to work with always !! April 6, 2013"

Vogue US September 2011 Preview
Just when I thought Daria would have nothing to do with the September issues this year this small photo proved me wrong. Her editorial work has been really lacking as of late (mostly reprints or work for international Elles) so I was ecstatic to see something, anything to do with Vogue. The photo below is from her photoshoot with Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot for "Bodies of Work" (Vogue April 2011).

Judging solely on this snapshot this image is rather beautiful. I'm glad Vogue chose to publish more photos from the Bodies of Work series. It would've been a shame for us to only see one!

Vogue US April 2011 : Bodies of Work
Long time no post ... but there will be another time for an explanation, hopefully soon! For now here is a quickly taken snap of Daria's editorial in the April 2011 "Shape" issue of Vogue. I haven't been that caught up on fashion news lately, so its quite a nice surprise to see your favourite model appear in a magazine without hearing about it online first. Old school!

Good Things Come In Twos
I'm about two weeks too late but here are the scanned pages of Daria in the June 2010 issue of US Vogue. Oh well, better late than never? Its the thought that counts? OK enough idioms, on to the photos.
Daria has two pages in the June issue, both were images accompanying articles in the beauty section. Both are outtakes from the Go West editorial in the January 2010 issue of Vogue US! I love the black and white photo in the sand. It's so beautiful and abstract and I love how they allowed Daria's tattoo to be shown. If Vogue keeps producing beautiful images like this then I won't mind these little article photos in lieu of longer editorials.

Mover, Shaker and Poser
The editorials don't seem to stop! After editorials in Vogue Nippon, V, and Vogue US in recent months, a new month brings with it an abundance of editorials. Both are in two of the most prodigious American fashion magazines - Daria has editorials in both W Magazine and Vogue US this April. And I have a feeling this won't be all that's coming from next month.

No, its not Daria on the April cover of Vogue (Gisele instead) but there is a one page article inside. Daria isn't often photographed by Annie Leibovitz so this will be exciting to see. Leibovitz's fashion work never really excites me but this seems seperate from the work Vogue usually commisions from her, and her nudes are always great studies. It's also Daria's fifth month in a row that she's been featured in Vogue ... maybe her cover will come some time in the future!

W US April 2010
Daria hasn't appeared in an editorial in W since that infamous July 2008 spread so this is quite a surprise. Its quite a long editorial as well, fifteen pages. So I will ignore the blocks on the cover and purchase this magazine just for the editorial (and possible for the Raquel/Freja Inez./Vinoodh editorial as well). No scans for now, just some low quality pictures from the magazine's site but I will make a proper post once there are bigger pictures. Oh, and the blue lines aren't part of the editorial just a feature added by the website!

The Cat Lady
I just picked up the March issue of Vogue and it holds quite a few surprises. Daria is in two editorials, The Warrior Way and Straight From The Hip, and along with those there is a cute candid and another shot from The Warrior Way. I've always wondered if they were going to feature Daria in one of the Contributors pages - she's appeared in quite a lot of editorials to warrant a mention!

Miss a day of blogging and two editorials, a cover and a mention to a friend's blog in Vogue (!) will pass you by ... Norman Jean Roy's editorial Straight from the Hip has been scanned by Mchunu and although Daria has only one shot it is one superb shot.

Straight From The Hip comes courtesy of Norman Jean Roy and I've mentioned before that I love how he photographs Daria. It is an article on the street style - Model's Off Duty. Make sure you take a look at the article. It opens up with a phone call as Daria rifles between her clothes closet (yes, that closet) and goes on about her tomboy style. For others it might be trivial but I love that Daria is interviewed in Vogue, albeit the fact that it is a short phone conversation on leather jackets! I love even more the fact that Daria styled her own shot and chose to forgo makeup and hair styling. It makes for a beautiful picture.
This article holds small surprises as well. Eword, the great blogger behind The Darialogist, is mentioned in the article! A sincere congratulations to her because she definitely deserved this. She always had such interesting views on every editorial Daria was in (and she's carried those views over to ewordland!) and they needed to be acknowledged. Again congrats!

Isn't this so refreshing? Its great to see a large publication like American Vogue take on such a big theme in pop culture right now. What is even more refreshing is the fact that it is a beautifully inspired editorial. This could have gone the way of Harper's Bazaar, and could have been cheesy and over the top. I think this is one of the instances where David Sims photography really works in a natural setting. These pictures are a such a natural and somber impression of James Cameron's Avatar world. Not only that but the second picture is impressing - I never realized how much Daria resembles a Na'vi creature before that photo! Imagine how beautiful this will look in print ...
I thought it would be interesting to see a line up all of the runway looks (runway photos only make it on to this blog once a year!) versus how they're styled in the editorial. Grace Coddington did a great job of combining dresses from the Spring Summer 2010 runway season. It's not her usual style but its so great to see the geometric prints and angular cuts of the spring season in print. The Rodarte war paint inspired war paint is so at place as well. And the Alexander McQueen armadillo boots! I don't think they could have found a better place than this editorial ... Avatar couldn't have come out at a better time for the fashion world!
