Outtake Special : Six Years Fresh

Another blast from the not so distant past with an outtake of Daria photographed by Bruce Weber. This is from the V by Visionaire #36 Fall 2005 editorial "V Love Daria". Its crazy to think that this picture is from six years ago ... and that Daria has been modeling for close to 13 years now!

If you take a look at the editorial page its crazy to see how many different publications shes been in, how many photographers, stylists and art directors shes worked with and how many different personas shes taken on just for the sake of a picture. I'd have to say I love Daria the most when shes playing herself, which is why this picture below is one of her best. Bruce Weber has a great way of capturing his subjects at their natural best.

Ave María!

I was holding out on scans of Daria's editorial to make a post, but time has passed (a lot of time) and I figured now or never. The time is specially fitting seeing as how I found a behind-the-scenes video of the making of Daria's latest editorial in V Magazine - "Ave Maria". Can I just say how much I love vimeo and its HD quality? This video is just endless shots of Daria smoking and posing, but for readers like you I'm sure you'll watch it more than once!

"Ave Maria"V Magazine #64 2010
Daria Werbowy by Mario Testino

Homage editorials are a fixture in Mario Testino's work and Daria is his go-to model for these types of works. She has portrayed everyone from Ava Gardner to an Alfred Hitchcock heroine and now takes her turn as Maria Félix, an icon of the Golden Age in Mexican cinema. Past efforts, although filled with colour and beautiful setting, always came off as too fabricated. I think its in Testino's nature to be too over the top and call in extravagant sets and styling. That's why I am so (pleasantly) surprised at this editorial and its simple set. I love that the focus is called to the styling and Daria's modeling. This editorial brings more justice to a character than an overly produced photo story would, especially in the beautiful fourth shot.

Most Wanted

Keep a lookout for the 64th issue of V magazine. The March/April 2010 issue of the Visionaire publication has yet to be released but previews of the editorials have been leaking for a while. Suprise suprise, Daria has an editorial inside (at the rate Daria is working this year I wouldn't be surprised if she make's the April issue of Vogue ... ok maybe a little surprised)!

Most Wanted is photographed by Mario Testino and inspired by Mexican film star Maria Felix. The cover hasn't been released but Testino is often a contributor so there is a good chance that it could be Daria. From the previews this looks really nice and it will be so interesting to see this mix of cowgirl and Mexican culture played out.

V 59 | The Swimsuit Issue

Daria appears in the Summer 2009 issue of V Magazine photographed by Mario Testino in I was pretty dissapointed by the cover. Daria looks like a Barbie doll - cold and shiny, but no expression. However, the accompanying pictures are not bad at all. Especially the first image featured here, the closeup in black and white. Daria is beautiful and manages to pull off a sensuality not many girls in this issue have.

V 59 Summer 2009 Cover

Daria's cover for the Summer 2009 issue of V Magazine ... ugh. After such a promising preview this cover is such a mess. We had so much faith in you Testino! And then you put out a cover this tacky - it just screams Elnett and Rupaul's Drag Race.

V #59 Preview

Another preview shot of Daria's latest editorial in Summer 2009 issue of V Magazine. It's looking good so far ...

In the Swim

Remember that swimsuit extravaganza in V Magazine I posted about back in April? We finally have our first pictures of the editorial, and a preview of one of Daria's shots.

I actually quite like this image compared to others in the preview. Considering its Testino and swimsuits this image is a lot less vulgar than I expected it to be. And much better than Daria and Testino's last attempt!

I'll post the full editorial ASAP.

V #55

It seems as if Inez & Vinoodh really can't get enough of Daria! They've photographed Daria for the September/October issue of V Magazine, along with thirteen other models on separate covers. It's a very gorgeous, spare, black and white photo and makes for a beautiful cover.

Daria has an editorial inside (yet to be released) also by the photographic duo entitled "Beautiful". I'll post it as soon as its released!

V #53 : Power House by Mario Testino

Daria is in a new editorial in V #53 magazine along with several of IMG's top girls in an editorial entitled 'Power House'

To put this out as a disclaimer for the rest of the post, I really have no objection to nudity in fashion as long as it's tastefully done. And by tastefully done I mean with a purpose or a story to tell. Boobs for the sake of boobs are, well ... boobs. But nudity in photography has the power to transcend just fashion and make for a beautiful picture.

V #53 Summer 2008 : Power House by Mario Testino
I really like the solo picture of Daria in this editorial but I feel that as a whole this falls flat. The differences between the veteran girls and newcomers is quite obvious in this campaign

There were some lovely shots but then ones like the one at right that kind of defeat the whole purpose. I think editorials like this should be carefully done - some shots are beautiful while others are questionably awkward.
