VP Editorial Preview

More previews of the Game Girl and Esprit Libre editorials in the May 2009 issue of Vogue Paris. I find the Game Girl editorial so refreshing. It kind of reminds me of Bruce Weber's work. What do you think?

Vogue Paris May 2009 Preview

Here are previews of Daria in Vogue Paris May 2009, on the cover and in the "Game Girl" editorial. I am officially in love with what I see so far! I love the reference to sixties sexploitation films. If you've ever seen Russ Meyer's film "Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!", this is what immediately came to mind. I find it so much more exciting than Daria's previous work in Vogue Paris. It's so kitsch and over the top, exactly the kind of fashion editorial I love.

VP Cover Confirmed

Daria's last cover, August 2008
As we had guessed, Daria is on the cover of the May 2009 issue of Vogue Paris! A review was posted at the Fashion Spot forums:
The cover feats Daria front shot wearing denim jacket, and khaki ensemble (short + vneck tshirt made brassière), and a besace with fringe on right shoulder. something pretty sexy militarian. she's wearing a long necklace with a shell pendant and two bracelets made of this dark blue stone (never know its name). she's holding the collar of the denim jacket with her right hand and left hand on her hips (i guess you can imagine the pose). smoky eyes and hair waxed in the back ... sunset in the back. the Vogue font is dark blue, the rest of typo is white and blue.
Sounds interesting! Along with the cover Daria has two editorials in this issue, one a full length editorial going with the theme of the cover and another beauty editorial photographed by Ben Hassett.
Game Girl by Inez & Vinoodh and Emannuelle Alt, ft. Daria W. (and boys)
14p. colour / 2 double page
"Daria is fighting with boys on the same road I&V shot Lara Stone for V.I. and the latest Balmain campain (I assume !). She's wearing bikinis (leopard, purple tye&die, vichy etc. patterns. matched/unmatched ensemble). She's wearing denim jackets or shorts and cowboy boots. not that bad for a bikini meets denim theme."

Beyond excited to see this! Daria's last cover of Vogue Paris was the August 2008 issue (above). I'll post images of the newest pictures as soon as they're posted online!

Behind the Scenes of H&M Spring 2009

A video has been released on the H&M website, of the making of the Spring 2009 H&M by Matthew Williamson campaign. It looks like the collection is going for a psychedelic feel, which perfect for summer. There are five videos filmed promoting the new collection, two being released at the end of April, and the rest being released at the beginning of May. I added some great screencaps below, taken by the darialogist!

Vogue US May 2009 : Quick Change Artist

We finally have the images from the May issue of Vogue US. Daria has a solo editorial "Quick Change Artist" photographed by David Sims. It's just a few shots for now but a very interesting and promising preview. The first shot doesn't actually look like Daria - it reminds me much more of another model, Tanya Dziahileva! But I do love it.

Update 2 After seeing the editorial in it's entirety, I can say that it's not really a big hit or a miss for me. In terms of showcasing Daria's versatility as a model it works. But apart from that, I've never really been a fan of editorials with both studio and background shots. It's almost as if parts are missing, in trying to incorporate so many different ideas. It would have been much more interesting to see an expanded version of each shot, rather than a mixing of seven different photos. I am in love with the second image above though.

I'm surprised, and dissapointed, that Daria wasn't in the Meisel feature in this issue. He was such a definitive character early on in her career and it always makes me wonder why they stopped working! It was so abrupt that it makes me think they had a falling out, but I've heard nothing but good things about Daria from people who work in the industry.

Models as Muses

If you've been waiting for Daria to reappear in Vogue US then the wait is over! Daria has an editorial in the new May 2009 issue of Vogue US 'Models as Muses'. The May issue pays tribute to the theme of the annual Costume Institute Gala's Met Ball and this year the models are in the spotlight. This issue wouldn't have been complete without Daria! According to posters at the Fashion Spot forums, Daria is shot by David Sims in a outdoor editorial.

"Sims finally gets some backgrounds and he gives it to us. Best Sims for Vogue edit I've seen in a long long while." - Luxx at tFS
David Sims often photographs Daria in a studio setting so this outdoors shoot will be interesting to see. The last Sims editorial that comes to mind is "Relax" (the image above) from W Magazine December 2003. That editorial was shot outdoors as well, so let's hope for something just as beautiful.
